Advocacy

In addition to service education and access regarding integrative therapies to persons with disabilities through our Quality Of Life program, The Chanda Plan Foundation also advocates for education and access to integrative therapies on a legislative and congressional level.  With a systematical change, more individuals can access integrative therapies, which will produce a cost-saving for our states and national health care.

Integrative therapies pilot program

The Integrative Therapies pilot program is mandated by 2009 House Bill 1047 (HB09-1047) to make integrative therapies available to persons with long-term disabilities to study the success of improved health outcomes in a cost-effective manner for the state of Colorado. It is a 3 year pilot program that provides acupuncture, massage and chiropractic to persons with long-term disabilities on Medicaid. With appropriate funding, the program is authorized to begin in January 2012.  The results of the pilot program, which includes an independent evaluation, will be reported to the Colorado General Assembly in August 2015.

Short Term Goals:

- Study the impact of integrative therapies on health outcomes of Medicaid clients with long-term disabilities.

- Show cost-effectiveness of the provision of these therapies for the State of Colorado

Long Term Goals

- Expand the choice of services available to Medicaid clients with long-term disabilities to include acupuncture, massage and chiropractic care

The pilot program is contingent on gifts, grants and donations. The Chanda Plan Foundation was able to get the Colorado legislature to approve this pilot program in 2009. With no state funds allocated toward the pilot program's implementation, The Chanda Plan Foundation is responsible for securing the funds. The Chanda Plan Foundation is honored to be collaborating with the Department of Health Care Policy and Finance in their administration role.
